After 8 years living in Texas we are leaving Houston next week and moving back home to Canada. The past few months have been a blur of house showing, selling, buying and now there is a brief calm before the storm of packing, moving, temporary housing and unpacking. Despite the craziness we are excited about all the upcoming changes and happy to be making this big move to be closer to family and old friends that we have missed. But leaving is always bittersweet and we would be remiss not to give thanks to the great state of Texas for adopting us and giving us so many fun experiences and memories while we were here.
Thank you Texas for giving us an appreciation for real salsa, tex-mex, bbq and iced tea. For showing us that it is always a good idea to hold doors open, use ma'am and sir, and strike up friendly conversation with complete strangers. We will miss your surprisingly beautiful lush scenery. The big winding trees. The bluebonnets and wildflowers. The humidity that will choke a horse but does wonderful things for your skin once you stay awhile. Your cheap cheap shopping. Your loud loud patriotism. Your crazy college athletics ( Hook em!) Thank you for turning us into a dog loving, shot gun owning family. And for introducing us to so many wonderful born and bred, or "got here as fast as we could" Texan friends. You will be missed! We're fixin to keep in touch and hope to see all y'all again in the future!
Sniff sniff, I am going to miss my spring breaks in Texas, somehow I don't think Calgary in April will be quite as appealing. Now you will have to come to my house for spring break. Love ya, excited for this new adventure.
ReplyDeleteOh, Jan! I can't believe you guys are leaving! You guys were our first friends in Texas and made us feel like maybe Houston wouldn't be so bad. We'll miss you tons and tons! We love you guys!
